Charlie McCann – A History of the Victor Chandler Chase
Background:
Frost and fog prevented the first couple of scheduled runnings of the race in 1987 & 1988 but during the 25-year history of Ascot’s Victor Chandler Chase the race has been won by some of the greats of the turf.
From 1989 to 2006 the race was run as a 2 mile Handicap and from 2008 (no race due to waterlogging in 2007) to date the race has had Grade 1 status, been run over 2m 1f rather than the minimum trip and the runners are asked to cross 13 rather than 12 fences.
